Collector Store Blog Spot

Tribute and Parting Thoughts

Posted by Steven Kraml on

Some Parting Thoughts by Steven Kraml:

It's with bitter sweetness to make this blog post about Steve Hauer. He was a faithful employee of the Collector Store for over 15 years, a generous parent to the children whom he and his wife adopted, and a great friend to every customer who came into our shop. It was hard then to see him go because he loved working here everyday. Unfortunately he suffered from incurable back pains which eventually led him to his retirement.

He retired in late 2015. After which he continued to try to keep up in his hobby of sports cards and his family, but a human body can only take so much pain for so long, that is why this blog post is bitter sweet. Steve Hauer passed away on Friday, March 24th, 2017. While it is upsetting to everyone to lose such a great man in this world, it is good to know that our friend now rests in peace with God.

As to me, he was more than a friend, he was a father-figure. I grew up without a father, and so while I worked here during my teenage years I looked to Steve for guidance in my outlook on life. I would go to him when I felt guilty or cheated, I would tell him my grips about work, and I was always happy to listen to his advice (even if I was too stupid at the time to accept it).

Even after I left the Collector Store to go work for other companies, I still would try to come back and visit him and Ben, funny thing was that no matter what he always seemed to have a dessert from home that he would give to me because he learned what I liked after working together for over 8 years.

I think if one would have asked him how he would want to be remembered, it would be as a God-fearing man who was strong, stubborn, and always loyal to his loved ones. We all love you Steve; and we at the Collector Store are honored to have worked with you.

If you want to pay your respects:

Service at KUTIS SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd., on Wednesday, March 29th, at 1 p.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation Tuesday, March 28th, at 4-8 p.m.

Memorials to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society appreciated.
